INTERNET SLANG

We now live in a the days of people coding each other using different slang to communicate.

Fast forward to 2015 when I didn't even know what the phrase 'Netflix and chill' means, ( macaroon spoiling my brains here) I thought Netflix and chill just meant Netflix and chill. Sorry to disappoint you all, I had no idea it meant something else, at a point last year I thought of asking this question on twitter. On a second thought, what if it goes viral in the wrong way? My head will pound with a serious migraine.

But how come I did even know this on time? I have asked myself so many times, until one day I was having a conversation with a friend and she made a reference to the new guy she saw at the cinema, "he's not my type he his that kind of 'Netflix and chill' type. I asked her what is wrong with 'Netflix and chill' type of guy? The reaction on her face was priceless, she was like Sophia what planet do you live in? To make matter worse my big mouth open again is that not good I asked.

At that point she realised didn't even know what it means, when she explained the real meaning to me, my feet's went so cold. I prayed for the ground to open and swallow me instantly. When I got home, I checked google and Instagram meme to get a good understand of 'Netflix and chill' drama.

Back in the days of 2007, “Netflix and chill” really did mean “relaxing and watching Netflix”. Moving forward to a new ear of Internet slang, the new meaning of the phrase is a euphemism as the code for two people going to each others houses and fucking or doing other sexual related acts. {MMMMM} “Netflix and chill” phrase gradually migrated from Twitter to Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlet.

Another one that get me really annoyed is when someone wants to say thanks, I see people type "tks" You have got to be kidding me.What does that even mean? If you have time to type three letters well you should use the same time to type the full letters properly. {roll eyes}

The other day, I read a text message from a friend and I did not reply simply because I just could not understand what the text means. Too many abbreviations beyond my understanding. Sometimes is OK to use coding or slang if you know what it means, but if you don't know what it means, it's not worth the headache.

I don't understand why people using code or slang to communicate like they are working for CIA or sometimes. Things get twisted so fast. {sorry am too old school}

 How comfortable are you with Internet slang?

 Do you know the different slang and what it means?

Outfit small talk:

I wore this look over the weekend the day after the weather was on full blast in London, just clashing colours together like summer is around the corner. Unfortunately not.

  1. Dear Sophia, your post made me smile because for example I asked my colleague what Netflix is :) The internet slang ... is sometimes indeed challenging. But your outfit is easy for me: I know without any doubt it is simply beautiful and perfect! Enjoy the new week! Tks for sharing ;)

    Hahahaha, good to know for me, what netflix and chill means :D I have to confess in the german language I use sometimes such slang slogans, but didn't really think of it :D In english I don't know them mostly, so that I wouldn't use them with KNOWING that I use them :D haha
    Why do people use such slangs? I don't know, perhaps they don't even think about that....ir they don't want to say it the "real" way, because it would sound too hard?!

  47. This is such a cool outfit, Sophia!

    It's really hard to keep up with all the new slang showing up everywhere. One thing I didn't understand at first is the word 'bae'. It means poop in Danish so I was a little confused when I saw people calling their girlfriend/boyfriend bae. I finally looked it up and found out that it stands for Before Anything Else and that it's a word people use instead of saying baby, sweetie etc. (Thanks Urban Dictionary!)
